The removal of Japanese knotweed relieson the removal and the treatment of both the foliage of the plant, and its extensive root system.

Due to the destructive nature of Japanese Knotweed, and how rapidly it grows, it can sometimes take several years to completely destroy. Therefore, the quicker that the invasive plant is identified, the quicker the treatment and removal process of the Japanese Knotweed plant can be carried out.

Japanese Knotweed herbicide and stem injection treatment

The use of our herbicide is often the most efficient and cost-effective method to treat Japanese knotweed. Our Japanese knotweed herbicide treatment plan allows the herbicide to reach both the tall Japanese knotweed foliage as well as the root system that can grow up to 12m from the crown of the plant.

The Japanese knotweed herbicide spray that we use can reach even the highest Japanese knotweed foliage. Our stem injection spray method ensures that only the invasive plant is treated, so no other plants in the area we be negatively affected. Our goal is to ensure that your land or garden remains healthy and can thrive without unnecessary plants taking up large amounts of space.

The stem injection delivers a calibrated dose of herbicide directly into the bottom node of the stem, ensuring the herbicide is delivered to the crown and root system (rhizome) with no native species being affected. The Japanese Knotweed herbicide and stem injection treatment and removal program can generally take anywhere from 1-4 growing seasons to be totally effective. It completely depends on how widespread the Japanese Knotweed problem has become, and how badly the plant has affected your garden or land space.

Membrane/Root Barrier Systems

Weedtec supply and install a full range of membrane and root barrier systems, mainly used to prevent invasive weeds, such as Japanese knotweed spreading onto a clean site once treatments are complete. Root barriers can be installed vertically or horizontally, and are usually used in partnership with a treatment program.

Root barriers can massively reduce the cost of removing contaminated soil off site, if the development site allows we can bury the contaminated soil in a sealed cell where the site is not being developed i.e. car park area.
